You still have access to Silicon Valley, but home can mean waking up near Monterey Bay, grabbing coffee in Aptos Village, getting outside among the redwoods, or ending the day with a walk near the ocean.

You May Not Have to Give Up Silicon Valley
Moving to Santa Cruz County does not necessarily mean leaving your career or connections behind.
For hybrid and remote workers especially, the equation has changed. If you only need to be in the office a few days each week, living farther from Silicon Valley may suddenly become much more realistic.
The tradeoff is Highway 17. It is a mountain highway, and traffic, weather, accidents, and commute times need to be considered carefully. This is not a move we recommend making based on a map alone.
Drive the commute during the hours you would actually travel. Then spend a regular weekday in the neighborhood you're considering.
The Lifestyle Is Genuinely Different
Santa Cruz County packs an unusual amount of nature into a relatively small area.
The county has approximately 29 miles of beaches, while Aptos alone offers access to destinations including Seacliff and Rio Del Mar, plus the Forest of Nisene Marks with roughly 30 miles of trails.
That's the difference buyers often notice.
The beach isn't necessarily your weekend destination anymore. It can become part of Tuesday.
You Still Need to Buy Strategically
Coastal real estate comes with considerations that buyers coming from Silicon Valley may not immediately expect.
Microclimates matter. Insurance matters. Drainage matters. Coastal exposure matters. Septic systems may matter. And two homes that appear close together on a map can offer very different lifestyles.
